What is Chlorella?
Chlorella is a single-cell micro-algae and is a major component of phytoplankton. In the mid-twentieth century, chlorella received a lot of attention as a potential super-food that could answer issues of famine and hunger, but it faded from popular view when agricultural methods became more efficient. Today, chlorella is primarily marketed as a health food supplement, and is touted for its high levels of protein, amino acids, iron, beta-carotene, vitamins C and B12. Chlorella has so much protein that one teaspoon of it has as much protein as one ounce of beef.

What are the health benefits of Chlorella?

Chlorella has many medicinal qualities. The chlorophyll in chlorella cleanses and detoxifies the body, and it is thought by some that chlorella builds immunity through the stimulation of the body’s T-cells. Chlorella can be consumed as part of a diet intended to boost energy, boost brain function for conditions such as memory loss, and benefit specific parts of the body such as the eyes. Some studies have shown that chlorella may help to treat fibromyalgia, high blood pressure, and certain types of cancer.

What are the guidelines for taking Chlorella?
Chlorella is typically found as a soft-gel, capsule, tablet, powder, or liquid. It can also be incorporated into other supplement products, such as green powder.
